No. 19 Baseball Hosts Alabama A&M on Tuesday

This afternoon the Tulane Baseball team will play against Alabama A&M  here in New Orleans. The game starts at 3PM (CST) and our broadcast will preempt the following daytime programs:

NEW ORLEANS – No. 19 Tulane baseball returns to action on Tuesday, Feb. 23 when it hosts Alabama A&M for a 6:30 p.m. CT contest at Greer Field at Turchin Stadium.

Live stats and live streaming video can be found on TulaneGreenWave.com. Due to Tulane women’s basketball playing at Temple on Tuesday evening, Tulane baseball’s game will not be broadcast on 88.3 FM WRBH. The call can be heard on Tulane’s All-Access page.

LAST TIME OUT
-Tulane took two of three from Illinois during opening weekend. The Green Wave won in walk-off fashion in the bottom of the 10^th on Friday, 6-5, thanks to a three-run homer by Jeremy Montalbano. The Green Wave shut out the Fighting Illini on Saturday, 3-0, before dropping Sunday’s contest, 5-2, after the Tulane bullpen surrendered five runs in the eighth and ninth frames.

-Alabama A&M opened their season with a four-game home stand against IPFW. The Bulldogs lost opening night and dropped both ends of a doubleheader on Saturday before rebounding for a 6-4 win over the Mastadons on Sunday.

DEBUTS GALORE
During the opening weekend of the season, Tulane fans got a glimpse of a lot of new faces donning the Olive and Blue. Ten new Tulane players made their Green Wave debuts against the Illini. Freshman Grant Witherspoon was the only rookie to post a start, while fellow freshmen Tyler Heinrichs, Cade Edwards and Ross Massey all made appearances off the bench. Transfers Shea Pierce, Jarret DeHart and Jeremy Montalbano all made starts, whileChristian Colletti, Trevor Simms and Matt Rowland also saw time for Tulane in their first three games on the year.

TAKING IT TO THE BIG TEN
Tulane took two games from Illinois during the opening weekend of the 2016 season. The series was the first Tulane played against a team from the Big Ten since sweeping Indiana early in the 2012 campaign.

FRANCE IS BACK
After missing all of 2015 with an arm injury, redshirt-sophomore J.P. France is back in full force. The righty from Luling, Louisiana, made two appearances out of the bullpen against Illinois during opening weekend, recording two holds out of the bullpen. France fanned five batters on opening night, helping the Green Wave pick up a victory.

POWER FIVE SERIES WIN
With Tulane’s series win over Illinois on opening weekend, the Green Wave clinched their first series victory over a school from one of the “Power Five” conferences since 2013. During the third weekend of the 2013 season, the Green Wave defeated Alabama two games to one in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.

OPENING-NIGHT HEROICS
It didn’t take long for redshirt-junior transfer Jeremy Montalbano to make his mark on the 2016 season. With Tulane trailing 5-3 in the bottom of the 10th on opening night against Illinois, Montalbano sent a shot over the left centerfield wall with two runners on for a walk-off home run. Montalbano had not hit a home run since 2013 when he was a true freshman at Texas.
